Synopsis

Contradance
1. Dance between four or more couples facing each other; gang.
2. Frequent change of location; back and forth.

Contradance was the soul of the elegant balls of the 18th century, while having the influence of popular festivals. It has its origins in peasant dances that reached European courts due to their greater simplicity and capacity for fun. In this concert, to the sound of Samuel Marques' clarinet and Vasyl Tsanko's piano, we will travel through the most beautiful and elegant European dances, until we reach the popular dances of South America.

Repertoire
  • Dmitri Shostakovich – Spring Waltz
  • Béla Bartók, arr. by Zoltán Székely & Kálmán Berkes – Romanian Folk Dances
  • Louis Bousquier – Enchanting Mazurka
  • Alamiro Giampieri – The Carnival of Venice
  • Mátyás Seiber, arr. by Stefan de Haan – Dance Suite

Synopsis

Art Nouveau, an artistic movement strongly inspired by natural forms and structures and markedly symbolic, was in vogue during a period known as the Belle Époque. During this "Beautiful Era", situated between two wars (the Franco-Prussian War at the end of the 19th century and World War I, already in the 20th century), profound cultural transformations took place that resulted in new ways of thinking and living, with art taking pride of place in everyday life. It was the era of beauty, innovation and peace.
In this recital, the audience is invited to explore the soundscapes of the period, experiencing sensations and gaining impressions of works by important European composers such as Debussy, Ravel and Fauré. Like the Impressionist painters, who applied the technique of juxtaposing different colors on the canvas (without mixing them on the palette) to then suggest a new color to the viewer's eyes, Samuel Marques and Vasyl Tsanko will invite the audience to discover some of the most beautiful works for clarinet and piano.

Repertoire
  • Charles-Marie Widor - Introduction et Rondo, Op.72
  • Carl Reinecke - Introduzione ed Allegro appassionato, Op.256
  • Isaac Albéniz, arr. by H. Delacroix - Chant d'amour
  • Claude Debussy, arr. by M. Hamelin - Clair de Lune
  • Maurice Ravel, arr. by I. Olenchik - Pavane pour une Infante Défunte
  • Jules Massenet, arr. by Richard Viglucci - Méditation
  • Gabriel Fauré, arr. by Robin De Smet - Sicilienne, Op.78
  • Louis Cahuzac - Cantilène
  • André Messager - Solo de Concours
  • Leó Weiner - Kék Tétel (II. Barn Dance)
Synopsis

"God knows I wanted / To be happy with you, / To live in the sun of your gaze / More tender."

In the Northern Hemisphere, Winter is the coldest season of the year, and it is during this period that one can experience phenomena of great beauty, even if more subtle. The nights are longer, and the days are shorter.

"Your desire is dead, / I live my desire, / Spring in bloom / In the Winter sun."

In this recital, the audience is invited to feel in touch with Nature, observing the landscapes of Sibelius, contemplating the moonlight through the eyes of Debussy and Dvořák, traveling through the Winter of Vivaldi, Schubert or Piazzolla, or even celebrating Christmas and Carnival to the sound of Tchaikovsky.

"Dreams I dreamed, / Where are they? / Hours I lived, / Who has them? / What's the point of having a heart / And not having anyone's love?"

Winter sun, an expression that conveys a short-lived, fleeting enthusiasm.

"I miss you, love. / Life has lost its shine. / Like the Winter sun / I have no heat."

Repertoire
  • Claude Debussy – Suite bergamasque, L.75 (III. Clair de Lune)
  • Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky – The Seasons, Op.37a (XII. December: Christmas)

Prisma Quintet

Prisma Quintet, founded in 2021, brings together five ambitious musicians who share a deep passion for chamber music. This gave rise to a reed quintet made up of woodwind instruments: soprano clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone and oboe. This is an emerging and innovative project in Portugal, as it is the only professionally formed quintet of its kind in the country.

Synopsis

In this singular encounter, Prisma Quintet joins brothers Ricardo Silva and João Silva on a journey where tradition reinvents itself through the most contemporary sounds. The timbral richness of the reed instruments — oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon — merges with the crystalline sound of the Portuguese guitar and the warmth of the classical guitar, creating an unprecedented and deeply immersive sonic texture.
Drawing on traditional Portuguese repertoire and the original compositions of Ricardo Silva and João Silva, we are invited into a world where the Portuguese guitar — the foremost symbol of Portuguese music — claims new spaces, freed from constraints yet true to its identity. This dialogue between past and present also extends to towering figures of our culture, such as Carlos Paredes and José Mário Branco.
More than a concert, this is a journey through Portugal's collective memory.
